Probiotic Therapy & The RIGHT Fiber For IBS & IBD

WHAT IS YOUR SELF-CARE ACCOUNT BALANCE?
By Tom Robinson, M.A.
you have a checking or savings account, you need to put money into it before you can take any out. And if the total amount of the checks you’ve written and the withdrawals you’ve made is equal to the amount of money that was
in the account, then you can’t write any more checks against it until you’ve made another deposit to it. And, of course, there are unpleasant consequences for spending more money than is in the account.

IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME: A GUT-WRENCHING TALE.
By Ashley Fortune
a functional gastrointestinal disorder (FGD) that is characterized by abdominal pain, cramping, and changes in bowel movement that may include both constipation and diarrhea – or alternate between the two. The term “functional” in the description alludes to the fact there is usually no sign
of disease, or an “organic” cause, when the patient is first examined.
Irritable bowel syndrome should not be confused with inflammatory
bowel disease (IBD) which is an autoimmune disease of the bowel.

GRATEFUL-OLOGY: THE SCIENCE AND RESEARCH OF GRATITUDE
By Drs. Blair and Rita Justice November 2011
If you start practicing now, you could be grateful by Thanksgiving. Not only that, your marriage could improve, you might be exercising more,
feel less depressed, sleep better, have a healthier heart, more life satisfaction, and increase your chances of living longer. This may sound like a late-night ad that comes with a free set of steak knives (...and that’s not
all!), but a growing body of research shows that gratitude is truly amazing in its physical and psychosocial benefits. The benefits are so great, in fact, that it’s a wonder “gratitude gyms” aren’t already being franchised.

PROBIOTIC THERAPY & THE RIGHT FIBER FOR IBS & IBD
By Jini Patel Thompson
If you’ve had irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) for any length of time, you’ve no doubt been told repeatedly to add more fiber to your diet. In fact, if you look at the shelves of breakfast cereals in your local supermarket, you’ll see many of the “healthy” varieties proclaiming the amount of bran or other fiber on the front label.

LOVE HEALS
By Martin Brofman, Ph.D.
When I decided to heal myself of terminal cancer in 1976, I heard the idea that “love heals.” Everyone seemed to know this, and since healing myself was now a matter of life and death for me, I decided it would be a really
good idea to add this to my selfhealing arsenal. I had been diagnosed with a
spinal cord tumor at the level of the neck, and it had been declared
inoperable and untreatable. I had been given one or two months to live (unless I coughed or sneezed) the year before, and by some miracle, I was still alive – perhaps because something in my consciousness had changed
in terms of my attitude toward life.

COMPLETE FODMAP LIST FOR A HAPPY GUT
By Cassandra Forsythe
Ever since I posted about how a low FODMAP carbohydrate diet has been amazing for my IBS issues (major gassiness, constipation and lethargy), I’ve been receiving almost a new email every week from people looking for a complete list of these foods so they can implement it too. Apparently a LOT of people have these gut issues and it’s not pleasant for anyone. Since I’ve been sending this list out, though, there have been a lot of success
stories. I personally have never been happier and no medication or therapy has ever been this beneficial for me.

LINDA’S FEELING LIKE SHE WAS COMING DOWN WITH
SOMETHING - CASE STUDY
By Jenny Johnston

An unremembered memory surfaced for a friend of mine, giving us the opportunity to reimprint the core event which caused the feeling. Linda (not her real name), is a friend of mine, in her early 40’s, who I was doing a course with. At an informal small group meeting, she greeted me with, “Don’t
come too close, I feel like I’m coming down with something”.

HEALTHY SNACKS
By Carolyn Dean MD ND
I’m asked all the time to recommend healthy snacks. So, here’s a nice email I just received from my friend Dr. Roby Mitchell (www.drfitt.com) that I’d like to
share with you. “At home, work, or on the go, it’s important to not let yourself be sabotaged by hunger. A hungry brain is more vulnerable to bad choices.”

THE PARTNERSHIP THAT IS VITAL FOR DISEASE PREVENTION
By Cathy Haven Howard
At the beginning of this year a new book came out that was touted by many of the national news networks as being a “landmark book” that would change the way you looked at your health. The book was written by the doctor
who had helped keep Apple founder Steve Jobs alive for a longer period of time than expected, and the book was called, The End of Illness by Dr. David
B. Agus. The title of the book caught my imagination, as well as the things that I was hearing about the book on the national news. I purchased the book and found that it was advocating many of the same things that I had come to know through my own personal challenges with Crohn’s Disease. I also learned many new ways of looking at my body and how to become a better
advocate for my health care in this rapidly changing world of new technology.

NUGGETS
One Smart Indian!!!
A Gujarati applies for a Job at Wal-Mart. An office manager at Wal-Mart
was given the task of hiring an individual to fill a job opening. After sorting through a stack of resumes he found four people who were equally qualified
- an American, a Russian, an Australian and a Indian He decided to call the four in and ask them only one question. Their answer would determine
who of them would get the job. The day came and as the four sat around the conference room table the interviewer asked, “What is the fastest thing you know?”
